What is Social Media Marketing?
Here I am standing in a parking lot, waiting for my car, and it’s raining and there’s no way out. It would have been great to walk into work on time but my friend is not happy. She’s got anxiety issues which make her scared of being outside. If I could have just given up the thought she was so much better off at home, I would have been able to get through this storm. Instead, I decided to take a chance and drive for an hour and a half to see if that new app I’ve been trying out is working for me. Turns out, that even though we looked at Google Trends for “Social Media Marketing Platform,” it doesn’t mean anything. But let’s go over the basics. The first thing to know if you want to start a social media marketing campaign is how often your competitors are using them. If they’re doing well there is little or nothing like it, so this means that starting a competition with these platforms will give you an edge. You only need enough customers of yours to create a buzz around it, so when people see something about it, it makes them curious to try it out. That’s exactly what happened because many of my friends started following me. After all, nobody needs another human who has a terrible time keeping track of their lives. Now, of course, there are exceptions, such as some companies that can pay huge amounts to advertise through them, but it’s unlikely you’ll ever find someone willing to hire you to do something he or she isn’t already good at; it’s almost always pretty hard to sell on the regular. If you don’t want to compete against others then try this type of business instead.
If you’re already using social media, ask yourself, why?
To develop your brand and learn more about the industry as well as gain experience, so you can be the best you can be. This means learning how to use the right platform and creating content that gets attention and builds your reputation. Start by checking out the statistics and creating lists of what your competitors are posting. Learn where they use their social media and check what other brands are doing to market themselves. Check their websites or blogs and look at their competitors’ posts, look at their videos and blog entries and try their tricks. Create lists of similar businesses that you think should be partnered together now the list is endless. Use popular trends in those industries to generate an advantage. Look at what your target audience is interested in. Find out where your customers are online and what keywords they are searching for to get information on. Get a feel for what your customer’s pain points are.
